Dans le domaine du calcul des structures, et avant la généralisation des moyens informatiques actuels, les règles de calcul étaient établies dans les codes de manière à pouvoir être mises en oeuvre de manière simple, en vue d'une application par calcul manuel. Ces règles sont devenues actuellement parfois très compliquées et presque impossible à appliquer manuellement. Les logiciels spécialisés intègrent ces règles, mais l'utilisateur est conduit à accepter un traitement en «boîte noire» en utilisant ces logiciels, sans vraiment avoir la possibilité de contrôler les algorithmes utilisés. le présent ouvrage propose une approche utile à l'ingénieur en charge de la conception et du calcul des structures en acier. L'eurocode 3 propose un ensemble de nouvelles règles de calculs, plus ou moins complexes à mettre en oeuvre et à interpréter. Ces difficultés peuvent conduire à des erreurs de raisonnement ou de calculs et il a semblé nécessaire de proposer des outils susceptibles de pallier quelque peu ces risques. Le but visé est de mettre à la disposition de l'utilisateur des instruments d'application du code, complètement transparents et modifiables au besoin. Cet ouvrage est accompagné d'un CO contenant des applications informatiques spécifiques, développées sous Windows" dans un environnement libre de droit, et couvrant une large gamme de calculs visés par les normes NF EN 1993-1-1, NF EN 1993-1-5 et NF EN 1993-1-8. Développées par deux ingénieurs praticiens expérimentés, les applications proposées ont été conçues dans un souci constant d'efficacité et de simplicité d'utilisation.
