Véritable voyage dans le temps, cet ouvrage revient sur les célèbres fouilles et les travaux de restauration menés par Howard Carter entre 1922 et 1932. Parmi les cinq mille quatre cent pièces découvertes dans la tombe, deux cents des plus fastueuses et emblématiques font l'objet d'un commentaire approfondi par Zahi Hawass. Or, argent, ivoire, pierres précieuses et semi-précieuses magnifient la dépouille du souverain et l'accompagnent dans sa dernière demeure. Les sarcophages, parures et insignes royaux sont étudiés avec attention, aux côtés de nombreux autres objets, rituels et funéraires (statuettes de divinités, vases canopes, chaouabtis, etc.). Grâce à la remarquable campagne photographique de Sandro Vannini, associant plans panoramiques et vues de détail, la somptuosité des objets et des matériaux est ainsi mise en lumière. 324 illustrations, incluant 26 pages dépliantes.
