La collection des "petits papiers" réunie avec rigueur et obstination par le bibliophile Paul Destribats (1926-2017) représente un ensemble exceptionnel de 12 000 pièces attestant le rôle fondamental joué par l'imprimé dans la naissance et le développement des avant-gardes, du futurisme au situationnisme en passant par Dada, le surréalisme, Madi. Cobra ou le lettrisme. Attentifs à ces formes d'expression reproductibles, permettant de rapprocher l'art de la vie, ces mouvements incontournables dans l'histoire de l'art du XXe siècle ont eu recours aux "petits papiers" pour diffuser leurs programmes esthétiques, affirmer leurs positions politiques, annoncer leurs actions ou faire connaître leurs oeuvres. Ces publications éphémères se distinguent souvent par leur inventivité graphique et littéraire : oeuvres tout autant que documents, elles constituent un apport majeur pour les collections de la Bibliothèque Kandinsky, au sein du Musée national d'art moderne, ainsi qu'une source de premier ordre pour la recherche.
