Description
Ce livre expose, par la méthode inductive, les bases de la Mécanique des matériaux, à savoir la théorie des poutres soumises à traction, flexion, torsion, cisaillement, la détermination des déformations des poutres, le calcul de structures hyperstatiques simples à l'aide des théorèmes énergétiques et l'étude du flambement des poutres. Il se caractérise par une étude poussée des propriétés mécaniques des matériaux (matériaux ductiles, matériaux raides, matières plastiques, béton ordinaire, béton à haute résistance, tenue à la fatigue), par une introduction systématique, dès le début du livre, des phénomènes non élastiques (plastique, visqueux), et par le recours à la doctrine semi-probabiliste de la sécurité, qui représente un perfectionnement considérable de la notion classique du coefficient de sécurité, notamment pour le calcul des pièces en acier soumises au flambement. L'ouvrage s'adresse aux étudiants en génie civil, architecture, mécanique, mines ou géologie. Il constitue une introduction adéquate aux enseignements ultérieurs sur les structures en acier, en bétons mixtes tels qu'ils se présentent actuellement à la suite des travaux du Comité européen du Béton, de la Fédération internationale de la précontrainte et de la Convention européenne de la construction Mécanique.
