Le dictionnaire de droit international public est un ouvrage qui regroupe les définitions de quelques 3500 mots ou expressions de cette discipline. Il s'agit d'une œuvre collective de juristes francophones. Ont participé aux recherches de citations devant servir d'illustrations aux mots à définir seize universités ou centres de recherches d'Allemagne, de Belgique, du Cameroun, d'Espagne, de France, de Grèce, de Suisse et de Tunisie. Le service juridique du Secrétariat des Nations Unies a collaboré à cette phase des travaux. Les définitions ont été rédigées par une centaine d'internationalistes provenant de seize pays (par ordre d'importance des contributions : France, Belgique, Suisse, Italie, Canada, Algérie, Allemagne, Espagne, Grèce, République tchèque, Burundi, Turquie, Argentine, Cameroun, Tunisie et Liban. Comme l'écrit Gilbert Guillaume, président de la Cour internationale de Justice, dans sa préface : " (...) le dictionnaire que j'ai aujourd'hui l'honneur de préfacer, constituera, j'en suis convaincu, un ouvrage de référence pour tous les internationalistes. Il rendra de précieux services aux universitaires et à leurs étudiants, aux juges, aux arbitres, aux diplomates et autres praticiens du droit, comme aux traducteurs chargés de mettre au point traités, résolutions ou arrêts. S'adressant en premier lieu aux francophones, il devrait toucher un public beaucoup plus large, en aidant tous les juristes qui ont à utiliser le français à s'en servir correctement et en contribuant ainsi à l'expansion de notre langue. Il devrait enfin, je l'espère, toucher un vaste public au-delà de spécialistes du droit international et nous enrichir tous dans la promenade qu'il nous offre au pays des mots. "
