L'implantologie est une discipline nouvelle qui a profondément modifié le traitement prothétique de nos patients, en permettant le remplacement de dents perdues par des piliers autonomes laissant intactes les dents bordant l'édentement ou en permettant de mettre en place des prothèses fixes là où la seule solution possible antérieurement était une prothèse amovible. L'occlusion est la clé du succès à long terme. Forts de leur pratique de plus de 40 ans dans cette discipline, Marc Bert et Philippe Leclercq apportent dans cet ouvrage la réponse à ces questions grâce à leur expérience fondée sur une approche fondamentale et clinique de l'occlusion. Les mécanismes d'intégration neuromusculaire des perceptions transmises par les dents aux centres régulateurs supérieurs sont analysés, avec les conséquences cliniques de cette approche. La même analyse est faite pour les perceptions transmises par les implants avec, là encore, les conséquences cliniques et les schémas occluso-prothétiques à adopter, au fauteuil comme au laboratoire, aidés en cela par Jean-François Martinez, prothésiste. Le but de cet ouvrage n'est pas d'apporter des solutions « prêtes à l'emploi » en occlusion des prothèses implanto-portées, mais de permettre au lecteur d'appliquer des principes issus de sa propre réflexion et de constater alors combien ils sont efficaces !
