Le paradoxe méconnu de l'histoire, c'est de constituer un espace où le récit de l'action agit sur l'action même. Et en change la face. Dans l'entre-deux-guerres, les « récits idéologiques » de l'extrême droite italienne et allemande racontent l'histoire sur la base de certains termes : le Stato totalitario et le totale Staat. Discours qui s'articulent de façon matérielle, dans les contextes de crise les plus graves pour l'économie mondiale. Les topographies de ces narrations actives dessinent l'esquisse d'une topologie. Elle fait apparaître « les transformations qui opèrent sous le couvert du jargon » (Rauschning). Celles-ci se mettent en mains les formules du pouvoir. Ce qui est en jeu : la mise en acceptabilité du nazisme ou d'autres secousses redoutables dans l'histoire et son « roman criminel ».
