Esprit brillant, drôle, profondément libre, Elsa Schiaparelli (1890-1973) est une figure essentielle de la mode de l'entre-deux-guerres. De ses premiers chandails tricotés en 1927, ornés de motifs de noeuds en trompe-l'oeil, jusqu'à ses robes baroques du début des années 1950, en passant par ses créations nées de sa proximité avec les artistes surréalistes - robe homard et chapeau soulier inspirés par Salvador Dalí, collaborations avec Man Ray et Jean Cocteau -, cette femme douée d'une puissante originalité aura marqué l'histoire de la mode par son éblouissante fantaisie. Ses salons de la place Vendôme étaient décorés par Jean-Michel Frank, ses silhouettes immortalisées dans la presse par des dessins de Leonor Fini et Marcel Vertès : se plonger dans son univers, c'est traverser les années les plus fascinantes de la création parisienne.
