Le texte L'Apocalypse raconte les visions de l'apôtre et évangéliste Jean en exil sur l'île de Patmos dans la mer Egée. Son message ne s'adresse pas au seul chrétien mais à l'homme qui, face aux épreuves de l'existence, lutte pour trouver sa voie et se trouver lui-même. Bien qu'ayant été écrit au Ier siècle, le texte de saint Jean résonne avec l'actualité d'une manière surprenante. Nous avons choisi la traduction de la Bible de Jérusalem, tant pour l'unanimité qu'elle suscite que pour le souffle et la justesse qu'elle donne à L'Apocalypse. L'auteur : Paule Amblard Dans ses commentaires et son introduction, Paule Amblard, historienne de l'art et spécialiste de l'art chrétien médiéval, décrypte la signification des images et des symboles et nous convie à interroger le sens profond du message de saint Jean. Les commentaires de Paule Amblard sont enrichis de nombreuses citations de la Bible, mais également du Coran et des grands textes mystiques. Nous proposons ainsi une véritable lecture symbolique et spirituelle de la tapisserie d'Angers, et une promenade éclairée sur le chemin de L'Apocalypse. L'illustration Chef-d'oeuvre du Moyen Age datant du XIVe siècle et attribué à Hennequin de Bruges, classée au patrimoine mondial de l'humanité, la tapisserie d'Angers est la plus grande tenture médiévale jamais réalisée : 130 m de long par 6 m de haut, c'est-à-dire 775m2 (ce qui équivaut à trois terrains de tennis). Les illustrations de notre édition proviennent de l'envers de la tapisserie qui a conservé les couleurs flamboyantes de l'époque du tissage, et qui a été photographié puis inversé. Un important travail de photogravure a été réalisé afin d'obtenir la meilleure restitution possible des couleurs. Ce livre rend un hommage indispensable à une oeuvre exceptionnelle. Un soin particulier à l'exploitation des détails de la tapisserie a été apporté afin de faire ressortir les émotions inscrites sur les visages des personnages : le texte de L'Apocalypse et la tapisserie s'animent et se répondent. Là où les panneaux de la tapisserie manquent, nous avons intégré des miniatures issues de manuscrits précieux qui ont inspiré Hennequin de Bruges.
