Ambitieux ouvrage d'illustrations, Crumb Comic Covers rassemble plus de 200 couvertures de comics dessinées par Robert Crumb entre 1960 et 2008. De Zap Comics à Arcade en passant par American Splendor ou Weirdo, le livre retrace près de 50 ans de carrière et présente au lecteur une grande quantité de documents rares et inédits. Un travail d'édition titanesque qui a demandé plusieurs années de recherche, de restauration et de mise en couleur afin d'offrir une publication de qualité, fidèle aux dessins d'origine. Ces illustrations pleines d'humour et de cynisme permettent d'apprécier l'évolution du style de Robert Crumb - qui n'a cessé de se réinventer au fil des décennies - mais aussi d'admirer le travail de typographie à la main effectuée sur chaque titre. Les compositions inventives et les ornements détaillés offrent un fort impact visuel qui nous plonge instantanément dans l'univers foisonnant de l'auteur. Véritable voyage dans le temps, les couvertures des comics dessinées par Robert Crumb témoignent de l'histoire moderne de l'Amérique, depuis les rues froides de Cleveland jusqu'aux répressions anti-hippies de San Francisco.
