Comprendre une langue de l'interieur, telle est l'ambition du linguiste. La tache est d'autant plus ardue lorsqu'il s'agit d'une langue ancienne, et plus encore quand cette langue ancienne, est le grec, fait de multiples dialectes et a l'histoire si longue et si riche. C'est pourtant ce tour de force qu'a reussi cette syntaxe, devenue rapidement indispensable. Etudiants et professeurs trouveront dans ce livre un instrument de travail pour comprendre les diverses fonctions de la langue et apprecier ses nuances : son but est non de faire le catalogue infini des "regles" a appliquer sans discernement aucun, mais bien de les justifier et de faire apparaitre leur logique interne. Penetree de considerations historiques, elle s'attache plus precisement a faire connaitre l'usage de l'attique aux Ve et IVe siecles, tout en evoquant largement la langue archaique et la "koine".
