Ce petit traite sur les demons a ete redige entre 1288 et 1295 par le franciscain Pierre Jean de Olivi (1248-1298). Dans le vaste ensemble des questions de ce penseur, rassemblees en 1293-1295, nos neuf questions sont numerotees a part et placees sous un titre propre.Olivi offre une perception personnelle du mal et des demons: 1) Il rejette la conception anselmienne de l'inexistence ontologique du mal, tres presente chez Thomas d'Aquin. 2) Le mal est l'autre face de la liberte. Olivi prepare ainsi la voie a Duns Scot. 3) La chute des demons entre dans un schema eschatologique, en laissant une place a l'action future de l'homme et notamment au remplacement de Satan, sur son trone vide, par saint Francois. 4) Les creatures de raison et de liberte (hommes, anges et demons) sont de statuts proches et mobiles.Ce texte touffu, sans perfectionnement final, n'est pas de lecture aisee, mais les efforts ne sont pas vains devant une reflexion souvent vertigineuse et le dialogue entre Olivi et Mediavilla est un des grands moments du Moyen Age.
