English summary: Liu Zhiji wrote his treatise of the perfect historian during the eighth century under the Tang dynasty. More than a simple manual of how to write history, this text describes how history should have been written, from the point of view of a professional historian. No other text of this kind is known of for this period, and it offers a unique perspective on the creation of history as a dynastic tool, while also allowing for a better understanding of the techniques and tools served the official historians of ancient China. French description: Le Traite de l'historien parfait fut compose au debut du VIIIe siecle de notre ere, sous la dynastie des Tang, par l'historien Liu Zhiji (661-721) qui souhaitait laisser a la posterite ses reflexions personnelles sur la maniere dont l'histoire devait etre ecrite. Cet auteur fut un professionnel dans ce domaine, employe de l'Etat imperial, et c'est la que reside tout l'interet du livre qu'il nous a transmis, qui nous ouvre pour ainsi dire les portes de l'historiographie officielle en Chine. Traite theorique et pratique, ce texte n'a aucun equivalent connu dans le reste du monde a cette epoque. Plutot qu'un Comment doit-on ecrire l'histoire, le Traite est une sorte de Comment aurait-on du ecrire l'histoire car fonde sur la critique de plus de trois cents textes historiques dont la plupart ont ete perdus. Le Traite est tout autant le cri du coeur d'un historien incompris, que les notes de lecture d'un erudit ou que l'ensemble des sentences d'un juge difficile a satisfaire. La presente edition comporte la traduction integrale des chapitres interieurs - le cur theorique du Traite - et en annexe, celle d'un chapitre exterieur selectionne pour son interet autobiographique. Cette traduction, qui represente un peu plus de la moitie de l'ouvrage dans son ensemble, est la premiere publiee dans une langue occidentale.
