Les consolations et les eloges funebres ont une origine grecque, mais ont rapidement trouve un echo dans la culture latine avec les lamentations funebres, les neniae et la laudatio funebris, eloge en prose prononce devant le bucher funeraire. La Consolation a Livie et les Elegies a Mecene representent deux aspects distincts de l'eloge funebre. La consolation visait a adoucir la douleur des proches, tandis que l'elegie rendait un hommage au defunt. D'un genre tres different, Les Bucoliques d'Einsiedeln furent retrouvees en 1889 et appartiennent, comme leur nom l'indique, a un genre tres different. a presente edition regroupe ces trois textes restes anonymes. Une introduction presente le genre funebre a Rome, ses liens etroits avec la rhetorique et fournit une bibliographie selective a l'attention du lecteur soucieux d'approfondir sa lecture. Chaque texte est assorti d'une preface faisant le point sur les problemes de datations ainsi que les differentes attributions qui ont pu etre proposees et suggere de judicieuses pistes de lecture. La tradition manuscrite est longuement detaillee et completee, pour les Elegies a Mecene, par un stemma codicum. Des notes accompagnent la lecture et sont developpees, en find'ouvrage, par des notes complementaires. L'ouvrage est en outre enrichi par un index nominum. Texte etabli et traduit par Jacqueline Amat.
