Et si elle est vraiment une rupture, le consensus si prisé ne risque-t-il pas de se rompre ? Cet ouvrage se veut d'abord une étude des institutions, des grandes orientations de la politique étrangère et de tous ses agents depuis le début de la Ve République ; il est aussi une réflexion sur l'image que la France veut donner d'elle-même : est-elle toujours une grande puissance sans en avoir tous les moyens ? Ou doit-elle abandonner toute prétention à la puissance et se convertir en Europe et dans le monde à une diplomatie d'influence ?
