Découvertes à la fin des années 1950, les Scholies aux Psaumes bénéficient pour la première fois d'une édition critique complète et d'une traduction. Composées par Evagre le Pontique (? 399) à une période intermédiaire de son activité littéraire, elles constituent le plus important de ses commentaires bibliques, par leur nombre - près de 1400 scholies - et par leur contenu spirituel et doctrinal exceptionnel. Le "philosophe du désert" y retrace l'itinéraire spirituel de chaque individu vers la connaissance de Dieu, mais aussi l'histoire globale de toutes les créatures et souligne le rôle central du Christ dans cette histoire. L'exégète interprète la totalité du Psautier grec, mais, comme à son habitude, de façon sélective, en choisissant tels versets, tels mots. Il témoigne ainsi de l'excellente connaissance du Psautier dans les milieux monastiques égyptiens, où il était connu par coeur et récité dans la cellule, en privé, pendant l'office de nuit appelé "petite synaxe" . Ce second volume contient le texte grec des scholies aux psaumes 71 à 150, accompagné d'une traduction française annotée et suivi d'un appendice sur un réemploi de quelques scholies par Michel Psellos, de multiples index et d'un tableau d'ensemble des scholies présentes dans les manuscrits utilisés. Marie-Josèphe Rondeau, professeur émérite à l'Université de Caen, a consacré sa thèse aux Commentaires patristiques du Psautier (IIIe-Ve siècles) et elle est l'auteur de la traduction française de la Vie de Constantin (SC 559). Paul Géhin, directeur de recherche émérite au CNRS (IRHT, Section grecque et de l'Orient chrétien) a publié plusieurs textes évagriens dans la Collection, seul (SC 340, 397, 514, 589), ou en collaboration avec Antoine et Claire Guillaumont (SC 438). Il poursuit maintenant l'édition des Lettres, des Képhalaia gnostica et des Skemmata. Matthieu Cassin, chargé de recherche au CNRS (IRHT, Section grecque et de l'Orient chrétien) et spécialiste de Grégoire de Nysse, a publié les Homélies sur le Notre Père de cet auteur, avec Christian Boudignon (SC 596). Il prépare maintenant l'édition du Contre Eunome III et des Homélies sur les Béatitudes du même auteur.
