Parallèlement aux sermons pour le Carême insérés dans la série des Sermons pour l'Année, Bernard prépare pour ses moines, sans doute pendant le Carême 1139, 17 sermons sur le Ps 91 (90) dit "de la protection" , caractéristique de ce temps de pénitence et de montée vers Pâques. Ce commentaire exégétique suivi, à visée pastorale, est bien dans la veine des Sermons sur le Cantique. Pour Jean Leclercq, il "passe à bon droit pour l'un des chefs d'oeuvre de saint Bernard et l'un des joyaux de la littérature chrétienne médiévale" . Véritable "livre de Carême" monastique, il off re au lecteur d'hier et d'aujourd'hui un chemin de conversion de l'espérance, destiné à accompagner la progression spirituelle au cours de l'ascèse quadragésimale, et nourri des réfl exions théologiques des traités de l'abbé de Clairvaux sur la grâce et l'amour de Dieu. Soeur Françoise Callerot ? (o. c. s. o.) était moniale à l'Abbaye Notre-Dame des Gardes. Soeur Marie-Sophie Vaujour (o. cist.) est moniale à l'Abbaye Sainte Marie de Rieunette.
