Jean-Michel Alberola, né en 1953, vit et travaille à Paris. Il poursuit depuis le début des années 1980 une oeuvre protéiforme qui navigue entre conceptualisme, abstraction et figuration. Au coeur de ce travail poétique et engagé, la question de la surface de la peinture est prépondérante. Cet ouvrage inédit réunit pour la première fois un ensemble de plus de 250 tableaux des années 1980 à aujourd'hui, donnant à voir toute l'étendue d'une pratique picturale unique et percutante. Un essai de Claire Stoullig ainsi qu'un long entretien avec Catherine Grenier nous éclairent sur la démarche de l'artiste et nous permettent d'appréhender son oeuvre.
