FRAN MAY PHOTOGRAPHY 1974-1978 This book contains a short story about how a 19 year old girl travelled on double decker buses to twenty-five destinations to photograph life in northern towns before being offered a place on the MA Course in Photography at the Royal College of Art aged just twenty. While at the Royal College of Art she documented the East End of London under the watchful eye of her personal tutor, the famous photographer Bill Brandt. Bill Brandt made Fran promise she would look after her images, stating that they would have social significance one day. Fran was awarded the Junior Travel Scholarship as the most promising student and at her degree show, she was awarded the Vogue Prize by Barney Wan, then art editor of Vogue Magazine for her documentary photography. KEY POINTS Taught by Bill Brandt (UK's most famous documentarian) Winner of the Travel Scholarship and the Vogue Prize Historical Document Extraordinary document of life in the pre-Thatcher years
