The canoe is the oldest boat and its origins are lost in time. Thousands and thousands of years ago the canoe became a privileged means of hunting and fishing, for the transport of people and goods, for the exploration and colonization of even distant lands. The work is divided into four chronological volumes and is also suitable for consultation, letting oneself be guided by the numerous images and anecdotes: VOLUME 1. The Canoe in Antiquity VOLUME 2. Competitive Canoe and Champions The work develops the history of canoeing from antiquity to the present day (in particular, up to the 2024 Paris Olympics). The fourth volume concludes the long journey through time and the world of this simple and versatile craft, capable of great feats, with a narrative of the history of inflatable canoes and competitive paddling. The history of inflatable canoes began in 1840, when the first paddle boat was made. Based on this model, multiple inflatable boats were developed, up to the current ones: rafts, catarafts, packratfs, kayaks, canoes and SUPs. A section of the book is also devoted to the history of Colorado River navigation in the Grand Canyon in the United States, where famous pages of inflatable boat history were written. My hope is that this work will foster the development of a canoeing culture, making those who already practice canoeing more curious and enthusiastic, and bringing even more people closer to this means of navigation, because there is no more beautiful gesture than paddling, and no better way to appreciate it than by learning about its history.
