Description

Initially released erroneously by the publisher with writer's reference list and notes instead of the actual book text file. This book is now revised by the publisher with the correct text. Behind the magic of practically every major jazz recording is one man, Rudy Van Gelder (November 2, 1924 – August 25, 2016). Van Gelder recorded hundreds of jazz sessions, including many recognized as classics, in a career which spanned more than half a century.Van Gelder recorded many of the great names in jazz including John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Sonny Rollins, Art Blakey, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, and Horace Silver, among many others. He worked with many record companies but was most closely associated with the Blue Note Records label founded in 1939 by Alfred Lion and Max Margulis . From 1946, Van Gelder had recorded in his parents' house in Hackensack, New Jersey, in which a control room was built adjacent to the living room, which served as the musicians' performing area. This extensive text volume documents each of those recording sessions taking place at Rudy Van Gelder's recording studios including producer, artists, arranger's, conductor's, record data and other available notes regarding the session. Nominated for the THE ASSOCIATION FOR RECORDED SOUND COLLECTIONS AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN HISTORICAL RECORDED SOUND RESEARCH
