Keirsey Temperament Certification Manual

Keirsey, a human behavior research company founded on the pioneering work of psychologist David W. Keirsey, has spent more than seven decades studying patterns in human personality and behavior. Dr. Keirsey is widely recognized as the OG of modern temperament theory, and was the first psychologist to publish a temperament-based personality framework and introduce a personality assessment to the general public. The Keirsey Temperament Certification Manual serves as the official instructional companion for individuals enrolled in the Keirsey Temperament Certification training program, presenting the conceptual foundations and applied frameworks used to understand how individuals make decisions, communicate, collaborate, and compete. Keirsey’s framework has been adopted across the Fortune 500, the Global 1000, leading universities, and top-tier consulting firms, as well as institutions within government and national security, including the White House, the U.S. military, the CIA, and the FBI. It has also been widely embraced worldwide by social enterprises, faith-based organizations—including churches, synagogues, temples, and mosques—where temperament insights are used in leadership development, counseling, marriage dynamics, and family life. Through its assessments, publications, and professional training programs, the Keirsey body of work has reached more than one billion people worldwide, making it one of the most widely recognized and applied frameworks for understanding human personality and behavior. Within the certification training, participants examine the structure of temperament, the dynamics of the sixteen personality types, and the implications of these patterns for human interaction in work, life, and play. This manual is intended exclusively for individuals enrolled in the certification program and is not designed to function as a standalone self-study course. It serves as a structured reference used within instructor-led training sessions in which participants explore the theory and its application across professional fields such as consulting, leadership development, education, coaching, organizational management, psychology, and counseling.
