Description
As our world grows scarier, complex, hateful, and denegrating it is important that we teach the next generation of young learners to care for those around them. This empathic studies ranges from Pre-K - 2nd and has topics ranging from economic equity to world religions. Its an appropriate way to teach our young learners to care about the world around them and the people in this world. It builds on Bloom’s Taxanomy and has aligned learning objectives. Guiding questions, guiding verses, book recommendations, Common Core State Standards for ELA, Illinois Social Science standards, Next Generation Science standards, and Illinois SEL standards are all included or embedded throughout the curriculum. There are vocabulary words aligned to each unit, with a total of 10 units per grade. There is also a script on how to teach the vocabulary words and introduce the topic in an appropriate way that leads to critical thinking and critical discussion. There are recommended texts that align to each topic. This curriculum wasn’t designed to be stringent. It can be added to or taken away from and should connect with the needs of you and your students and/or classroom.
