Description

At a time of reckoning for the future of antitrust, this Liber Amicorum brings together a diverse collection of today's leading thinkers to pay tribute to Albert Allen (Bert) Foer, founder of the American Antitrust Institute (AAI). In doing so, it illustrates the intellectual landscape of the antitrust debate, with articles that go to the heart of its goals, and others that light a path forward towards reform. Others yet delve into the pressing issues of enforcement and remedies. The variety of voices included characterize the breadth of perspectives that Bert cultivated at the AAI, from lawyers and academics to enforcers and journalists. In providing a platform for multidisciplinary discourse through the AAI, Bert helped create the foundation on which today's movement rests, a public citizen's voice spotlighting competition as the basis of diversity and dynamism. About the Author Nicolas Charbit, Ph.D., LL.M., D.J.C.E, is CEO and founder of Concurrences. Nicolas was admitted to the Paris Bar in 1994. He had been practicing competition law from 1994 to 2005 with a strong emphasis on cartels and network industries. He has completed a Ph.D. thesis at University Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne on antitrust law and the public sector. Nicolas wrote for European and international legal journals and taught at universities and business schools. He has published various books and articles on European and French competition laws. Nicolas founded Concurrences in 2004. Diana Moss became the President of the American Antitrust Institute in January 2015. Her work spans both antitrust and regulation, with industry expertise in electricity, petroleum, agriculture, airlines, telecommunications, and healthcare. Before joining AAI in 2001, Dr. Moss was at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, where she coordinated the agency's competition analysis for electricity mergers. Dr. Moss is Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Economics at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She holds a M.A. degree from the University of Denver and a Ph.D. from the Colorado School of Mines. Robert H. Lande is the Secretary of the American Antitrust Institute's Board of Directors. He was the AAI's first Senior Fellow and a co-founding Director of the AAI and has served the AAI on a full-time basis during three different periods. He is the Venable Professor of Law at the University of Baltimore. Professor Lande is the author of numerous law review articles relating to antitrust, is a frequent speaker at antitrust events, and is often quoted in the trade press. A graduate of Harvard University (J.D., M.P.P.) and Northwestern University (B.A.), he has served in the FTC's Bureau of Competition and was associated with Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue.
