Small Museum by Simone Rosenbauer documents forty-one unique small museums across every state and territory of Australia. The book delves into Australia’s cultural memory. From repurposed jails to old schoolhouses, these often-overlooked institutions weave together stories that reflect the rich tapestry of Australian history and identity. This project serves as a tribute to the passion, dedication, and heritage preserved within these unique spaces, offering a reflective exploration of memory, history, and cultural preservation. German/Australian artist Simone Rosenbauer lives and works on the lands of Awabakal and Worimi in Awabakal country (Newcastle/Australia). She studied Photography at the University of Applied Sciences in Dortmund (Germany), where she received her BA and MA in 2006. In 2008 she received the European Endeavour Award from the Australian Government to study for her MFA in Photography at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, which she completed in 2010.
