This book comprises the Proceedings of the 12th International Engineering and Product Design Education conference E&PDE10, which was held 2-3 September 2010 at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway. The conference was held by NTNU in partnership with the Design Education Special Interest Group (DESIG) of the Design Society and the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED). The E&PDE series of conferences has for many years been a leading forum where representatives from education and industry who have an interest in sharing new perspectives on design education can meet. The 2010 conference theme, "When Design Education and Design Research meet?" aimed to provide a platform for participants to explore how scientific research and education within the engineering and product design arena do, can or should strengthen each other. In the book, 97 papers are published from an international community of design educators seeking to offer their perspectives on these issues.
