Description

Getting Quality Improvement Right to Benefit Patients is a 240 page practical guide for clinical staff on the quality improvement (QI) process and how to carry out QI projects that focus on producing benefits for patients and patient care. The book is easy-to-read and has a number of diagrams, tables and examples. The book begins with clear explanations of the QI process and how it relates to other clinical governance processes, for example, patient safety, improving the patient experience and evidence-based practice. It also explains from the evidence base what it takes in a healthcare organization to be successful in quality improvement and how different models or approaches for improvement fit in. Starting with forming a team of people who want to work together to achieve an improvement, the book walks the reader through identifying and engaging key stakeholders in the work, formulating the team s precise improvement objective, measuring the effects of current practice using a variety of tools, and so on. There is a chapter for each key stage in the improvement process. The book also includes a very detailed 'how to' chapter that gives step-by-step directions on how to use over 30 tools to carry out QI projects. Extensive references and a glossary are included.
