Description

Review [Provides] a comprehensive and thoroughly researched contribution to the study of politics, ideology and theater. [...] while scholars of early modern theater will welcome this thoughtful study, critics and historians interested in seventeenth-century political discourse will also benefit from Carreño-Rodríguez's extensive attention to how theater responded to its own sociopolitical contexts. ― REVISTA DE ESTUDIOS HISPÁNICOS A splendid study of Spain's professional theater in the imperial crisis experienced in the peninsula between 1598 and 1659. [...] This book is mandatory reading for those interested in these two areas of cultural production in early modern Spain. ― RENAISSANCE QUARTERLY
