The origin of urbanism is one of the most relevant historical events in the history of humanity, as it is an adaptation to a strategy oriented towards the world economy, which could be linked to the conversion of the human being into the Aristotelian ‘zoon politikon’. This process, with a Mediterranean origin, had an early reception in the Tartessian world, whose central area is located in the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula, the current provinces of Huelva, Seville and Cadiz, extends to the Algarve in the West, the Guadiana valley of Extremadura in the North and the Cordoba area as the eastern limit. For this reason, the ‘I International Congress on Protohistoric Urbanism’, held in November 2022 at the University of Huelva, revolved around geographical areas, with the participation of the greatest specialists in each of them. The monograph presented is the result of this congress, with 13 chapters by 20 researchers from eight different scientific institutions. | El origen del urbanismo es uno de los acontecimientos históricos más relevantes para la historia de la humanidad, ya que se trata de una adaptación a una estrategia orientada a la economía mundo que podría vincularse a la conversión del ser humano en el ‘zoon politikon’ aristotélico. Este proceso, de origen mediterráneo, tuvo una temprana recepción en el mundo tartésico, cuya zona central se sitúa en el suroeste de la península Ibérica, las actuales provincias de Huelva, Sevilla y Cádiz, se extiende hasta el Algarve por el Oeste, el valle del Guadiana extremeño por el Norte y la zona de Córdoba como límite oriental. Por este motivo, el ‘I Congreso Internacional de Urbanismo Protohistórico’, celebrado en noviembre de 2022 en la Universidad de Huelva, giró en torno a las áreas geográficas, con la participación de los mayores especialistas en cada una de ellas. La monografía presentada es el resultado de este congreso, con 13 capítulos de 20 investigadores de ocho instituciones científicas diferentes.
