During World War II the United States built up an infrastructure to accommodate the recruiting and training of millions of men and women. This infrastructure accommodated the Army Ground Forces, the Army Air Forces, the Army Service Forces (previously the Service of Supply), and POW camps. This book and its companion volumes are based on the 9 Services Commands that existing for administrative purposes in the U.S. Previously published have been the 1st Service Command (ME, VT, NH, MA, RI & CT); the 3rd Service Command (PA, MD & VA); the 5th Service Command (IN, KY, OH & WV); the 6th Service Command (IL, MI & WI); and the 7th Service Command (CO, IA, KS, MN, MO, NE, ND, SD, WY) This volumes, for the 9th Service Command is organized to include: Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah & Washington. The compilation of relevant data for installations is by state and by branch within each state and includes the author's own photography, field notes, local library research relative to each location, interviews and salient points from the internet resources.
