Jun wares are subtle yet dramatic ― red and purple bursts of colour splash across thick, cloudy blue glazes, containing bubbles and many gradations of tone. To achieve these effects, the production of Jun ware was complex and ingenious, relying on novel techniques. The account starts with ceramics dating to the Song, Jin and Yuan dynasties and proceeds to the stunning ‘Official’ Jun wares made in the early Ming dynasty.
