Description

Product Description Four decades of encounters with the visionary and esoteric work of Adrian Rifkin across the historical, aesthetic, conceptual and theoretical terrain of his thought and criticism are brought together in this extraordinary new collection. In Intersubjective Encounters, internationally renowned scholars working across a range of disciplines explore the uniquely Rifkinian question of interdisciplinarity in culture/visual studies. Close readings of specific artwork engage with aspects of Rifkin's work diverse as Parisian urban formation, queer theory, the breathless subject and the object of art history itself. As the authors reflect on how their own methodologies have interacted with Rifkin's, critical concepts are refigured and redeployed in an implicit argument for the value of Rifkin to teaching and learning, thinking and writing. Finally, Rifkin responds in a (non-)conclusion, unfolding his own travels through Marxism, feminism, psychoanalysis and queer theory. About the Author Dana Arnold is Professor of Architectural History and Theory at Middlesex University, London, UK. She was joint editor with Adrian Rifkin of the international journal "Art History 1997-2002." Her monographs include: "The Spaces of the Hospital: Spatiality and Urban Change in London" (2013); "Rural Urbanism: London landscapes in the early nineteenth century" (2006);" Reading Architectural History" (2002); and "Re-presenting the Metropolis: Architecture, Urban Experience and Social Life in London 1800-1840" (2000). She is also the author of the bestselling "Art History: A Very Short Introduction" (2004) which has been translated into many languages. Her recent edited and co-edited volumes include: "Art History: Contemporary Perspectives on Method" (2010); "Biographies and Space" (2008); and "Rethinking Architectural Historiography" (2006). Her latest book "Art: An Introduction" was published by TATE in 2014.
