She is currently a board member of a number of Networks and organizations, including the European Equality Law Network and the Academic Network of European Disability experts. She has been an associate professor at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, in 2000 and a visiting professor at the University of Melbourne in 2015. Gerard Quinn is the Director of the Centre for Disability Law and Policy at the NUI Galway School of Law. At a national level she is actively engaged in the process of legal capacity reform, and co-ordinates a working group of over 15 civil society organizations in the fields of disability, mental health and older people on this issue. Internationally, she has supported the Secretariat of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and in particular the working group which prepared a draft General Comment on Article 12 (legal capacity). She is also actively engaged with the UN Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing which aims to strengthen the international human rights of older persons.
