Hola! Academic Success: Introducing Student Case Management (SCM)

Hola! Academic Success Introducing Student Case Management (SCM) is a book that will help at-risk Hispanic students get motivated to finish high school. All too often, some Hispanic students are never told they are smart or have potential in the area of academics. When this occurs, there can be a huge disconnect for the Hispanic student and the results can be a lack of confidence, poor grades or even dropping out of school. It is the goal of this book to fill in the gap and create a bridge of positive communication, so the student gains the revelation that they are smart and that they have endless academic potential. Hola! Academic Success hits a home run on behalf of the student who has never been encouraged and challenges them to bring their A-Game to their academic path of education.Dr. Medina has taken her motivational, encouraging, and inspirational techniques and has created a dynamic book to set the tone for academic success which fills in the gap and the student knows how important, vital, and smart they are, even if they are reading about it for the first time. Hola! Academic Success was developed and used by Dr. Tina Medina when she was a Diversity Facilitator/Retention Specialist at the Kansas City Kansas Area Technical School in 2004 through 2007. As a former counselor and case manager, Medina was asked by faculty staff to help all students who were struggling and having personal issues. She quickly discovered 12 topics which continually arose and she decided to create Student Case Management.Student Case Management is a fundamental learning method that teaches students twelve life factors that provide student service support for academic success. Students utilize the 12 life factors to balance the demands of school and home life, so that they can concentrate on their academic subjects and request support from family and friends as needed. Medina was able to recruit and retain more Latino students with the Hola method at the Kansas City Kansas Area Vocational School. This past summer, she introduced her positive affirmations from this book at the Armourdale Renewal Association's Summer Youth Program (Ages 5 to 17) and the positive outcomes were simply incredible. The bottom line is that all students need to be encouraged with positive affirmations, self-esteem techniques, and creative activities to excel and blossom. Hola! Academic Success introduces a strong case management plan for students to succeed if they are having problem in school or need help with creating a positive study environment. This book is easy to read and has some very strong self-esteem material and life skills material for a student who needs to be motivated.
