CREATESPACE The Sacred Delivery

Having a lifelong interest in history and genealogy, I regularly scan the Internet for historical articles about my family to see if any new ones have been added recently. In late April of 2018, I discovered a 1918 article about my grandfather. Intrigued, I read the piece with great interest. Over the next day or so my mind kept going back to it, putting myself into the situation, and wondering how my grandfather had felt at the time. I realized that I was bringing him to life. I was getting to know him, which was especially significant because we'd never met. He died before I was born.For a long time, I had wanted to do a series of short stories using a collection of historical mementos for inspiration, but I didn’t know what the stories would be about, or what type of memento I would use. Well, within thirty-six hours of finding the newspaper article about my grandfather, I knew I’d be writing a short story inspired by it. And before I was done writing The Sacred Delivery, I knew it would be just one installment of a larger work based on old newspaper clippings.I continue to scour the Internet for more Jillett stories to add to this one. I’m happy to report that I’ve already found some! I also have a largely unexplored ancestry on my mother’s side—the Del Tergo side—ripe for discovery.
