The Seeds of Creation: Interviews with 18 Contemporary Women Artists

THE SEEDS OF CREATION by COSMINA ENE- 576 pages - 256 color photograpsFive years ago, when I moved to the United States, I discovered artistic expressions very different from what I have seen in Europe. Initially, I thought that Paris, the French capital, was the most important art center in the world. I was surprised to come across such diversities of art expressions in the New York area. Being myself an artist and an art lover, I have decided to uncover all the facets of artistic aspects present in this city. I was already very familiar with the megastars artists promoted by museums and international galleries, but I did not know much about the majority of independent artists. Visiting artists' studios was an extraordinary occasion to get in touch with independent artists living in this area and more importantly, to go to the source of their creation. In New York, I have discovered that many artists make their promotion and marketing themselves, and curate their art shows in much-unexpected places. I have already devoted many studies on the Modern Masters and published three books. However, at the beginning of this year, my great interest shifted from modern to contemporary artists. I decided to launch a new project involving living female artists. For the last eight months, I have contacted and interviewed many artists. Eighteen women managed to get to the end of this beautiful adventure. I was curious to discover the origins of their inspiration and motivations, and I decided to interview them to get a direct and spontaneous source of information. To each of them, I proposed the same set of questions, so that their answers would divulge their real and individual personalities.I divided my interview into four sections. The first part will get readers to know the artist. The second is a description of their creative process. The third part will uncover their artistic influences and aspirations. In the last section, some of the artists expressed the desire to share a story related to their creative environment. Through the interviews published in this book, readers will discover the multi-cultural aspects and the diversity of artistic expressions present in the New York art scene. It is also a direct source of information revealing personal experiences, thoughts, emotions, and hopes.A significant part of this book focuses on the creative process of these 18 contemporary women artists.I have gathered 256 illustrations of artworks so that readers can have a visual presentation of their works and innovative techniques.
