Biodegradable Drug Delivery Systems for Cancer Therapy

The use of drug delivery systems (DDSs) for cancer therapy has been trialed for the better part of the last half century. These DDSs range from micron-sized to nano-sized, are made from either organic or inorganic materials, have spherical or non-spherical morphologies, are either solid or porous, and are either non-biodegradable or biodegradable. While all these parameters are critical when the decision to choose one for cancer therapy is concerned, biodegradability is one feature that is highly sort after. In this thematic issue of Current Drug Delivery therefore, there are a series of papers examining the potential of several such DDSs in vitro and in vivo models using tumour cells.
