Description

Ceramics are corrosion resistant and heat resistant materials which are formed by treating non-metallic minerals such as clay at high temperatures. Some examples of ceramics are porcelain, earthenware and brick. They are hard and brittle in nature and generally exhibit a semi-crystalline structure. Depending upon the treatment, they can be either vitrified or non-vitrified. Some general properties of ceramics are poor electrical conductivity, high melting temperature, chemical resistance and high moduli of elasticity. They find extensive application across various fields such as dentistry, aerospace and automobile industry.
