Description
Ceramics are corrosion resistant and heat resistant materials which are formed by treating non-metallic minerals such as clay at high temperatures. Some examples of ceramics are porcelain, earthenware and brick. They are hard and brittle in nature and generally exhibit a semi-crystalline structure. Depending upon the treatment, they can be either vitrified or non-vitrified. Some general properties of ceramics are poor electrical conductivity, high melting temperature, chemical resistance and high moduli of elasticity.
