Description
Head and neck cancer includes any form of cancer that develops in the oral cavity, nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, larynx, pharynx or salivary glands. Common symptoms of this type of cancer are persistent pain in the throat, a sensation of pain or difficulty when swallowing, jaw pain, a change in voice, persistent pain in the ear, etc. Diagnosis depends on specific signs and symptoms, and the results of blood tests. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging are the imaging tests used to diagnose this disease. A histological examination and a microscopic inspection for the presence of cancerous cells can be performed through a biopsy of suspected cancerous lesions. Treatment for head and neck cancer is curated to the specific needs and general health of individual patients. Treatment and management may include surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy.
