Description

Retinal diseases are those diseases that affect the light-sensitive tissue found in the back side of the eye. There are various common retinal diseases and conditions, such as macular hole, retinal tear, epiretinal membrane, retinitis pigmentosa, retinal detachment, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Several retinal diseases have some symptoms in common, which include distorted or blurred vision, lost vision, seeing floating specks or cobwebs, and defects in side vision. There are various risk factors of retinal diseases, which include having diabetes, or other diseases, aging, having a family history of retinal diseases, smoking, eye trauma, and obesity. Optical coherence tomography, wide-field retinal imaging and dilated retinal examination are a few of the tests used to diagnose retinal disease. The treatment of retinal disease can be complicated at times and can include various treatment options, such as implanting a retinal prosthesis, shrinking abnormal blood vessels, injecting gas or air into the eye, evacuating and replacing the fluid in the eye, using a laser surgery, or freezing.
