Description

Behcet's disease is an inflammatory disorder affecting multiple body parts. Painful ulcerations in the mouth, genital sores, arthritis and inflammation of the parts of the eye are some of its common symptoms. There is no known cause of it. However, it is attributed to certain genetic factors. Diagnosis is mainly based on the assessment of mouth sores, genital ulcers, skin lesions and ocular inflammatory conditions. Other diagnostic methods include slit lamp examination, fundoscopic examination, magnetic resonance imaging, cerebrospinal fluid analysis, etc. The treatment of Behcet's disease is designed to ease symptoms, reduce inflammation and control the immune system. High-dose corticosteroid therapy, anti-TNF therapy, thalidomide, IVIG, etc. may be used for the management of this condition.
