Description
The type of surgery which is meant to restore the form and function of the body is known as reconstructive surgery. It may include simple techniques, such as primary closure and dressings, as well as complex skin grafts, free flaps and tissue expansion. It does not include cosmetic surgery, which is concerned merely with the purpose of improving a person's physical appearance and the removal of one's signs of aging. Biomaterials are used in reconstructive surgery for correcting or replacing damaged body parts.
