Description
A medical specialty that studies the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of mental disorders is known as psychiatry. Neurology and psychology are the fields which are closely related to psychiatry. The mental disorders which fall under psychiatry include disorders related to mood, perception, behavior and cognition. To assess the initial psychiatric condition of a person, the process begins with a case history and mental status examination. Physical examinations, psychological tests, neuroimaging and neurophysiological techniques are used to assess the mental status of a person. Psychotherapy, psychiatric medication, assertive community treatment (ACT) and community reinforcement approach and family training (CRAFT) are some of the common psychiatric treatments.
