Description
A medical condition involving an increase in the pressure of blood within the arteries of the lungs is known as pulmonary hypertension. Its common symptoms include shortness of breath, fast heartbeat, chest pain, syncope, tiredness and swelling of the legs. A detailed analysis of the person's family history and physical examination are required for diagnosing pulmonary hypertension. Other diagnostic techniques include echocardiography, electrocardiography, chest X-rays, arterial blood gas tests and computed tomography scans. Prostacyclin, treprostinil, sildenafil, calcium channel blockers, etc. are some medications that may be used for the management of pulmonary hypertension. This condition can also be surgically addressed via atrial septostomy, pulmonary thromboendarterectomy and lung transplantation.
