Description
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) continues to be one of the mysterious diseases of 21st century, even though ample amount of research; both pre-clinical and clinical, has been conducted during the past few years. Significant attempts have been made for the progress of pathophysiological models and understanding the underlying pathology, and with new instruments in genetics and transgenic techniques, the goal of finding a durable cure has come into scope. On the contrary, most pharmacological trials have remained unsuccessful in depicting an advantage for ALS patients. In this book, readers will find a compilation of state-of-the-art examination of human genetics in ALS, molecular basis of disease development and clinical manifestations, and new investigation principles in the area of electrophysiology. An overview about all relevant pharmacological trials in ALS patients is also included, while the book ends with a discourse on present developments and future trends in ALS research.
