Description

This exciting new book presents an excellent coverage of renewable energy technologies and resources. The book focuses on photovoltaics, hydro, tidal, wind, and biomass systems. It explains the scientific principles and physical systems used for harvesting and harnessing of renewable resources and makes comprehensive use of worked examples and problems. Readers will also learn how to effectively calculate the cost and payback time for a given renewable energy plant by understanding the factors affecting the cost of generating electricity from a renewable energy system. The book uses a simplified mathematical approach and provides appropriate background material. The ultimate objective of the book is to provide a concise text book for university students on science and engineering courses as well as for professional practitioners. About the Author Nader Anani received his BSc (Hons) degree in electrical and electronic engineering from Newcastle University (UK). He has lectured at the College of Science and Technology in Jerusalem. He obtained his MSc degree in Microelectronics from the University of Manchester (UK). He was a research assistant at the Manchester Metropolitan University working on harmonics elimination and voltage control in voltage-source inverters for traction applications. He then took up the position of research fellow at the University of Sheffield (UK) working on the design of magnetising fixtures for high-energy rare-earth permanent magnets. He studied for his Postgraduate Diploma in Education at the University of Huddersfield (UK). He was a lecturer at Bridgwater College (UK), and a senior lecturer in electrical and electronic engineering at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). He was a senior lecturer in electrical systems at Sheffield Hallam University. He was founding head of electronics and electrical engineering at the University of Chichester and is a reader (Associate Professor) of Electronic Engineering at the University of Wolverhampton, UK. His research interests are in renewable energy and power electronics. He has authored and co-authored in excess of 80 articles and has examined more than 20 Ph.D. candidates. He is a senior member of the IEEE and a chartered UK Engineer.
