She is the author of two books, Nation as Network: Diaspora, Cyberspace, and Citizenship, and Cultivating Workers: Peasants and Capitalism in a Sudanese Village, and is co-editor, with Inderpal Grewal, of the anthology Theorizing NGOs: States, Feminisms, and Neoliberalism. Dr. Bernal has conducted ethnographic research in Sudan, Eritrea, Tanzania, and cyberspace.
