Description

When veins become varicose, the leaflets of the valves no longer meet properly, and the valves do not work. This allows blood to flow backwards and they enlarge even more. Varicose veins are most common in the superficial veins of the legs, which are subject to high pressure when standing. This book presents topical research in the study of the symptoms, causes and treatments of varicose veins. Topics discussed include segmental failure of the vaso-regulatory function of venous microcirculation causing varicose veins; the role of inflammation in varicose vein pathology; treatment of varicose veins by ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy and diagnostic airplethysmography.
