Product Description This technical volume shows how the design and mechanics of composite materials are transferred to the development, testing and applications of materials fabricated in whole or in part from renewable resources. The book provides scientific details on how plant-based and recycled materials are incorporated as fibers, resins and additives into traditional and multifunctional composites. It explains testing, modeling and applications, particularly in architecture, civil engineering and transportation. About the Author Dr. Anil N. Netravali is Professor of Fiber Science in the Department of Fiber Science & Apparel Design at Cornell University. His main research is in the field of fiber reinforced composites. He has published widely in the area of fiber surface modification and fiber/resin interface characterization. In recent years he has made significant contributions in the area of sustainable, plant-based 'Green' resins, composites, nanocomposites and other products. He was the recipient of the Fiber Society's Founders Award in 2012. Anil is also an adjunct faculty member in the Dept. of Materials Science & Engineering at Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, Alabama and at Universidade Federal do Amazonas (UFAM), Manaus, Brazil. He serves on the Editorial Advisory Boards of several research journals including: Composites Science and Technology, Journal of Biobased Materials and Bioenergy, Journal of Renewable Materials, Reviews of Adhesion and Adhesives, Journal of Engineered Fibers and Fabrics, Textile Research Journal, and Fibers.Dr. Christopher M. Pastore is currently Professor of Transdisciplinary Studies as well as co-Director of the Engineering and Design Institute in the Kanbar College of Design, Engineering and Commerce at Philadelphia University. Chris has been working in the processstructure- property relationships of composites materials since 1988 and has published over 100 papers and several books on the topic. Chris has received awards for his work, including Citation for Distinction, National Institute of Building Sciences (2012), Best Practices in Communication - Honorable Mention, (for EcoMan and The Skeptic podcast), Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (2009), Excellence in Education Award, United States Green Building Council (2009), Excellence in Sustainability Education from Delaware Valley Green Building Council (2007), Philadelphia Sustainability Award, Pennsylvania Environmental Council (2007), Leadership in Sustainable Building, Pennsylvania Resources Council (2004) and the Award for Distinguished Achievement in Basic or Applied Fiber Science, Fiber Society (2000).
