Alzheimer's disease (AD), the most common type of neurodegenerative disorder in the aging population, is characterised pathologically by extracellular amyloid plaques and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles, pathophysiologically by synaptic dysfunction, and clinically by a progressive dementia.
